DT and DR
Main Post:
Interested in your opinions about damage mitigation for ttrpgs. Which do you prefer and why?
My system currently has an attacker vs defender skill contest to see if an attack hits and i feel good about where that’s at. So I’ve begun the journey of figuring out my armor system.
DR: I like this because it’s so simple and intuitive. Subtract DR from damage. Done. But it doesn’t allow for much build diversity. Bigger number is better
DT: This one in my opinion feels a little more realistic. Armor blocks some damage but if an attack does hurt you, you feel the full effect. It functions sorta like a pseudo-AC and can fall into the bigger is better problem like DR
Mix: I feel like this could be pretty robust and customizable but at the cost of simplicity. Might simulate layering armor well. Light/Medium/Heavy -> Gambeson/Mail/Plate
Which do you feel best serves a medieval fantasy setting and keeps players feeling mortal. One of my big goals with my project is to have the stories be more about regular people rising to the occasion as opposed to super hero type adventurers. Inclined to say DT so when you do get hit it feels dangerous.
Have you ever seen a system use a mix and was it fun or too much to deal with?

I don't really worry about fantasy armor, I'm more concerned with modern stuff since that's my design project.
That said, I use DR.
I would advise against using both, since it's a giant fucking hassle to track no matter which way you slice it, and there's a million other things to track in combat.
This could be alleviated if you're using a VTT, but in general I recommend for designing so that it's playable without a VTT even if that is the native intent because not everyone has them or wants to use them.

Fikowski in Double DT (Games 2016)
Main Post:
I was rewatching the broadcast on YouTube and, although the announcers never mention his name once, you can see him off to the side several times during the heat. He does deadlift singles THE ENTIRE TIME, and still finishes 5th in the final heat and 10th overall in that workout.
Dude has been hacking the events since the beginning.

Brent wrote a blog post every night of the 2016 Games recapping his events. "As I was in the tunnel getting ready to head into the stadium I heard my name shouted, I looked over amongst the crowd of people taking pictures and saw my coach. He said to me 'go all singles on DLs from the start, Heppner just crushed it. Then do bigger sets halfway thru'"
I wish more athletes did long form recaps like this. You can read his full thoughts on that Double DT event here: https://brentfikowski.com/2019/04/26/crossfit-games-day-3-recap/
What kind of game would help my DT coursework?

Top Comment: I'm not sure about the educational part, but Spirit Island used wood and plastic pieces intentionally to differentiate the pieces that were allied with or antagonistic to nature. Kutna Hora also has a crazy cool design. There's a making-of video out there for it you should watch. It used a type of injection molded recycled wood called rewood and the resource display was custom. Maybe you could make a game about the logistics of recycling and the resources pieces could be made out of the recycled material they represent.

Is the DT 900 Pro X worth for gaming?
Main Post:
Hello Reddit. I currently own a goxlr mini, shure sm7B mic and a arctic nova pro SteelSeries headset.
I feel like I’m having a harder time than ever hearing footsteps in CS. I honestly don’t want to equalize a bunch but just want a nice out of the box experience.
I’ve only owned gaming headsets in my 12 years of experience.. HyperX cloud 2 (were really nice) G Pro X (also a nice pair, shitty software tho) and now the SteelSeries.
Now I’ve been looking a the Beyerdynamic DT 900 Pro X which everyone seems to be absolutely praising.
Now my questions are as so:
- Is the DT Pro X good for gaming? I only play tac shooters where footsteps and be able to pin point positions are key. A little bass would be nice. (I liked the hyperx cloud 2 bass but it was a little over the top at the same time)
- Will my goxlr mini be able to drive the headset with optimism sound quality?
- The headset is open back, are there a chance for the sound to bleed into my shure mic or would that require extreme high volume in the headset for that to happen?
Thank you for reading :)
Top Comment: check the youtuber Fresh Reviews, he takes a look at various headphones/IEMs for competitive gaming. he has had the 900 pro X on his best list for a while now yes it won’t be loud enough for your mic to pick it up
